In Foundation 1 (Nursery) and Foundation 2 (Reception) children follow the Foundation Curriculum. In line with the Development Matters points and Early Learning Goals children are encouraged to think and talk about their learning and to develop self-control and independence. They participate in a range of activities which take account of their interests and achievements in developing physical, intellectual, emotional and social abilities. The approaches to teaching within the Foundation Stage include recognition of the value of providing first hand experiences, of giving clear explanations, of appropriate adult intervention and of using play and talk as a media for learning. There is a secure outdoor Early Years Foundation Stage playground adjoining the Foundation Stage Unit.
